Where to Use PTFE Thread Seal Tape
Use Teflon™ tape for NPT threads and other approved tapered pipe threads where the seal is created at the threads themselves. Do not apply tape to connections that seal at a flare, O-ring, gasket, washer, hose, or clamp.

Is PTFE tape the same as Teflon™ tape?
PTFE tape and Teflon™ tape are commonly used to describe the same type of thread seal tape. PTFE is the material, while Teflon is a Chemours brand name associated with PTFE and other fluoropolymers. Generic PTFE tape is not necessarily manufactured under the Teflon brand.
Can you use PTFE thread seal tape on a car radiator?
Only when the radiator connection uses compatible tapered pipe threads and the tape is approved for the coolant and operating temperature. Do not use it on radiator hoses, flare fittings, O-ring fittings, or gasketed connections. Follow the radiator or fitting manufacturer’s instructions.
How do you use PTFE or sealing tape?
Clean the male and female threads and remove old sealant. Wrap the tape around the male tapered pipe threads in the same direction the fitting will tighten, without extending tape past the end.
